A Dawdy Halloween

Halloween this year was pretty low key at our house this year. I got the box of decorations out but only managed to get a spider web light hung up in the kids' room and that was just to get Ethan off of my back.

Halloween Day went like this...

Pumpkin Carving in the morning: Trick or treating at night: Ethan, Megatron. Emilee, Cinderella (see below)

Of course we had our yummy Homemade donuts and Hot Cider for all of those that came to our house. We really do love having our friends come over and partake in this tradition with us. We have great friends and neighbors, we love living here.

Funny Emilee story:

This year Emilee decided that she wanted to be Snow White for Halloween. We went looking for costumes. I soon found out that people who make princess costumes most definitely do not live in Utah. We found a 4T snow white costume but it had a short skirt. Honestly, for a 4 year old? What Disney princess have you seen with a short skirt? I can maybe understand an adult short-skirted Snow White, if they were going as Skanky White, but really a 4 year old?

Anyway, we eventually found a long Snow White dress that was more appropriate for Emilee. It was $20 and I paid it because I felt like she could use it as a dress up after Halloween. She wore it for a few Halloween parties and seemed to love it, fantastic!

Then came Halloween night, we went to get costumes on and Emilee decided that she did not want to be Snow White for Halloween, but Cinderella. She was Cinderella last year. I was getting mad thinking, why did I spend money on Snow White if you are not even going to wear the stinkin' costume. Well I was all flustered at her and trying to get things together and I said, "you are going as Sleeping Beauty. That is the costume I bought and you are wearing it!" She looked at me and said, "Okay I will be Sleeping Beauty." Good. I thought I had won the battle. I get out the Snow White dress and She says: "No I want Sleeping Beauty." Now a light clicks on in my head, I did say Sleeping Beauty didn't I? CRAP! I said, "Em I am sorry I don't have Sleeping Beauty, you can be Snow White." "No I want to be Cinderella!" I was so confused and so fed up that I gave in.

Note to self: Don't buy costumes too far ahead of time. Better yet, put together a make shift costume the night before.

Until next year...

Yeah, we went shopping Saturday afternoon for a witches' outfit because someone didn't want to be a princess this year (don't blame her, she's been one every year of her life;) Shout out thanks to Target for having all their costumes on sale the day OF Halloween...it's amazing the amount of happiness you can buy for 7 bucks....lol...at least next year you'll have a vast array of outfits to choose from!

I feel like we have the same daughter!! Ours was snow white and Sleeping beauty, Also I never posted a comment, but when you wrote about the princess spoon, we have the same, but Jocelyn calls it the ariel spoon, and heaven forbid if we give it to her and she didn't ask for it, She says it is special, so she gets to choose when she uses it!! Kids are so FUNNY!

For the record, Skanky White sounds (and is spelled) too much like Sandy White, so I'm offended. :)

Ha! That cracks me up! Isn't it always like that with 4 year olds?

I feel you on the costume thing. You know what Taj ended up being--and we specifically got the Spiderman costume for him this year (he refused to wear the mask.) Oh well. I'm sure she'll dress up in it just like Taj will with his mask. It all works out in the end!

And I'm sad I missed out on the doughnuts--I totally forgot or we would have been over gobbling them up for sure!

PS--that picture of Emilee (with Aaron pumpkin carving) is ADORABLE!
